Description

Ludwigia sp. White is a rare, high-tech aquarium stem plant, actually a variegated mutant of Ludwigia inclinata ‘Cuba’, known for its stunning white to pale pink, delicate leaves under high light and CO2, adding contrast to aquascapes but requiring specific care and nutrient-rich substrates for its vibrant coloration and to prevent reversion to green, making it best for experienced hobbyists.
Key Characteristics
  • Appearance: Produces delicate, narrow leaves that are white to pale pink when submersed, contrasting beautifully with other plants.
  • Origin: A cultivar or mutant of Ludwigia inclinata var. verticillata ‘Cuba’.
  • Growth: Can develop green, faster-growing shoots that revert to the parent ‘Cuba’ form, requiring pruning.
Care Requirements (High-Tech Setup)
  • Lighting: High intensity is crucial for white/pink color; medium light results in lighter crowns.
  • CO2: Essential for vibrant coloration and healthy growth.
  • Substrate: Nutrient-rich, soil-based substrate is recommended.
  • Nutrients: Requires balanced liquid fertilizers (like EI dosing) for best results.
  • Water: Stable parameters, soft to slightly acidic water (pH 6.0-7.5).
Aquascaping Use
  • Placement: Ideal for midground or background placement.
  • Style: Creates focal points in Nature or Dutch-style aquariums.
Difficulty & Tips
  • Difficulty: Considered demanding and better suited for experienced aquarists due to its specific needs.
  • Maintenance: Regular trimming prevents it from getting overshadowed and encourages bushier growth.
  • Reversion: Monitor for green shoots and prune immediately to maintain the white coloration.
